So why do I love Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 so much, or any of the Modern Warfare series?
Because I become a kid again. I love it because I become an imperfect hero of the ultimate action movie, that I am in control of.
The great thing about Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is the fact that they do not over direct and develop the character you play in the game. They give you, as a real person, enough room to incorporate your own real character into the Call Of Duty hero. You can play the character the way you like.
The best example of this is when Makarov takes you and his team into the airport, and starts gunning down all the innocent people high and low. Personally, I was not prepared for this part of the story line, and it totally surprised and shocked me, as if it was happening for real. I could not pull the trigger, not once, to kill one of the innocent, in fact I tried shooting Makarov and his men, only to end up dead every time. When I did go through with it, like I say, I could not kill the innocent, but when the airport security forces came down on us, it was a kill or be killed situation, and I was good with it.
This ability the game gives you to play the character almost exactly the way you want is one of the biggest reasons why the game is so successful. If you decide to go high onto balconies, or low through alleyways, the game automatically readjusts, and sends more enemies that way, even the soldiers you are supposed to support will follow you that way. And each time you die generally the enemies will be placed differently, making simple levels always different.
In Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2. if the game makers had once shown the hero’s face, or given him lots of back-story that would have taken the power away from the player, which would stop the player from giving the hero his or her own personality. FPS developers should take a good lesson from Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2, or any of the Modern Warfare series.
Other awesome aspects of Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is the super realism. You don’t even want to get close to the enemy, its scary! When you kill them there seems to be a hundred ways to die, and sometimes they are just injured, and get up again or limp away, or the lay there on the ground, and still shot at you. The weapons are real, the sights, and the way your health degrades is very cool: the hero’s vision, as he gets hurt, becomes bloodier and bloodier, plus the the shake and jolting of the camera when getting hit, and weapon kickback, makes fighting disorienting and hard, very real and cool.
I also love the garbage, like scraps of paper, and dust that get whipped around in little twisters along the hot streets, and alleyways in the Brazil scenarios, and Middle East missions. It’s so cool, because you mistake the crap flying round sometimes for the enemy. Little details like this makes the game more challenging, and realistic.
Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2, like all the Modern Warfare series has a great story line, and does not burden the player with too many cut-scenes.
